“I am in my second year at Wake Tech and Laurie has been working with me for the last four months.  During this time she has helped me to be less impulsive and to think about other peoples’ feelings and why they are often very different from my own.  Laurie makes large projects seem easier for me to finish by breaking them down in chunks.  This helps me keep up on long-term assignments.  I would recommend her services because she understands me and my struggles with social situations better than anyone else I have worked with and it is easier to talk with her about anything I face at school.”Kimberly (November ‘08)
“I worked with Laurie for 1 year when I lived in Chapel Hill and attended Carrborro High School. I liked talking to her and her lessons helped me as a Person. I learned to initiate things so I can get what I want. The life simulations helped me a lot.” Student graduating May 2009
Testimonials
“Laurie Nederveen worked with my son, Eric, for over 5 years. Initially she met with him to help him prepare for his upcoming transition to college. She helped him better understand what college life would be like and the responsibilities he would have in advocating for himself as a college student. As part of this, she needed to help Eric understand both his strengths and challenges so that he would be able to recognize when he might need help and feel comfortable asking for that help. During his five years as a student at NC State, she met with him before each semester to help him with strategies to stay organized with the many complicated requirements of his academic course load. She also used these meetings to encourage him and congratulate him on his hard work and accomplishments. Eric does not like to “chat” but Laurie had a wonderful way of engaging him and getting him to share information and talk about his feelings. Also, having him complete visual checklists and questionnaires was a perfect strategy to get him to open up. Laurie is someone who “gets it” about individuals on the autism spectrum and her work with my son was invaluable towards his college success.

I also know Laurie as a co-worker at TEACCH and at the Autism Society of NC. She is extremely organized and always professional and it was an honor to be able to present with her multiple times at workshops and trainings. She has many years of experience working with adolescents and adults on the autism spectrum and her knowledge is extremely strong in the area of independent living skills and organizational academic support. I would highly recommend her to families.”
